About Cadenza

Cadenza is a free library of public-domain sheet music — works whose copyright has expired, so anyone may read, copy, perform, transpose and print them. Every score is rendered live in your browser from MusicXML using the open-source Verovio engraving engine.

Why it’s legal

These compositions are in the public domain (their composers died well over 70 years ago). The musical works themselves carry no copyright, so publishing engravings of them is free and lawful. We deliberately do not host modern copyrighted songs.

Sources

Score data is drawn from the music21 corpus (public-domain music, BSD-licensed tooling). Engraving by Verovio (LGPL).
